New Year's Resolutions
How can we keep the resolutions we make to ourselves around New Years?
Yes, Happy New Year to everyone! A time to celebrate all our accomplishments and, if you’re like me, to draft those resolutions.
What’s next for you? Did you succeed in keeping yours last year? I did not. No reason to lie. I fell far from succeeding and I think I figured out why.
Breaking Down New Year’s Resolutions
Statistically speaking, it seems only 8-10% of those pesky goals are ever accomplished.
Why is that?
VAGUE GOALS
combined with
LACK OF PLANNING
makes for
UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS
which leads to
A LOSS OF MOTIVATION.
So how do we stay on track? Here’s what I propose…
Three Resolution Rule
Two resolutions feels like too few. Four, too many.
A Blend of Personal and Professional
Last year all my resolutions were work related and I felt like a huge failure going into December, having only accomplished one of them. I realized that life is more than work, and there needs to be a balance, a balance that should be reflected in our resolutions.
My Goals for 2025
Finish my next middle grade novel that is finally taking shape.
Write the next passion project, a YA I’ve been working on for ten years.
Get outside more. Every single day, beyond my workout class which I am religious about going to, set 30 minutes aside to go outside WITHOUT MY PHONE. Let my mind wander freely.
Two work related, one personal. That’s my blend.
If you’re so inclined, tell me yours! We can cheer each other on all year, keep us moving.
What do you say? You with me? Leave a comment with yours or send me a message and let’s make 2025 our most productive year yet!
